Direct Primary
Care in Tucson
Healthcare built around you.
Most people are not searching for a healthcare model. They are searching for a better experience — a physician who has time to listen, care that feels personal, and a relationship that lasts longer than a single visit.
At The Family Doctor, that experience is what Direct Primary Care makes possible.

01
THE MODEL
What is Direct Primary Care?
Direct Primary Care — commonly called DPC — is a membership-based approach to family medicine. Instead of billing insurance for routine visits, you pay a flat monthly fee that covers direct access to your physician for most primary care needs. That structure lets your doctor focus entirely on your care, not on claims, prior authorizations, or administrative overhead.
02
THE DIFFERENCE
How it differs from traditional care.
Traditional healthcare is organized around insurance — large patient panels, tightly scheduled appointments, and visit lengths that reflect that pressure. The result is care that can feel rushed, impersonal, and difficult to navigate.
Direct Primary Care removes that layer. What remains is a direct relationship between you and your physician — more time, more flexibility, and communication that is clear and unhurried.
It is the family doctor experience people thought no longer existed.

INCLUDED
What membership includes.
Your monthly membership covers the large majority of everyday healthcare needs:
+
Sick visits and routine care
+
Preventive services and annual checkups
+
Chronic condition management
+
Many in-office procedures and treatments
+
Direct physician communication, including secure messaging and virtual appointments
+
Access to discounted labs, medications, and imaging
04

OUTSIDE MEMBERSHIP
What falls outside membership.
Some services go beyond the scope of primary care and are not included in membership:
—
Specialist visits
—
Hospital care
—
Emergency services
—
Most prescriptions, advanced imaging, and ancillary services
When any of these are needed, your physician helps coordinate referrals and guides next steps so your care stays connected rather than fragmented.
05
INSURANCE
Do you still need health insurance?
Yes. Direct Primary Care is not health insurance and does not satisfy ACA minimum essential coverage requirements. It is designed to cover routine and ongoing care — not major medical events.
The practice strongly encourages members to maintain health insurance for hospital stays, surgeries, or unexpected emergencies. Many patients pair a DPC membership with a high-deductible health plan for more complete coverage.
